40 years in business – meet Sören Adolfsson

Last Sunday was World Water Day – a day to recognize one of our most important resources. For us at Currentum, it’s also a good opportunity to highlight the people who work every day to make our communities work.

One of them is Sören Adolfsson, discipline manager for plumbing and sprinklers at Currentum – who has been with the group from the very beginning.

Sören’s journey in the installation industry began back in the 80s. After graduating with a Master of Science in Engineering from Chalmers, he started his career as a plumbing consultant, before switching to the contractor side after a few years.

Over the years, he has been involved in starting several installation companies, including Västgårdens Rörläggeri, Installationsbolaget in Gothenburg, Installationsbolaget in Stockholm, and Installationsbolaget Sprinkler.

In 2000, when Sören was thinking about his next step, five fitters from his previous workplace knocked on his door. They had a clear message – whatever he chose to do, they wanted to be involved. That was the start of Installationsbolaget in Gothenburg.

A few years later, in connection with the construction of what was then called Swedbank Arena (now Strawberry Arena), a similar situation arose. As the project neared completion, the question of what would happen next was raised

– The installers started asking: “What are we going to do next?” That’s when I felt I couldn’t just say I didn’t know. That’s how we started Installationsbolaget in Solna,” says Sören Adolfsson.

After many years as an entrepreneur, thoughts eventually turned to the future. What would happen to the companies in the long run? And was there a way to build something bigger, without losing local entrepreneurship?

The answer began to take shape in the summer of 2020. On the west coast, more specifically on Orust, some of the people who would later become part of Currentum’s foundation met. The first meeting took place almost by chance, but became the starting point for something much bigger.

– That’s where it started.

Shortly afterwards, work began in earnest. Several companies joined forces, ideas were concretized and the foundation of what is now Currentum began to take shape – a group built on entrepreneurship, cooperation and a long-term approach.

Today, Sören is still active in the business part-time. In his role as discipline manager for plumbing and sprinklers, he brings together companies and key people within the group to exchange experiences, network and share knowledge.

– It’s about meeting, socializing and learning from each other. That was the idea from the beginning, and we try to stick to it.

When he’s not working, he likes to spend time with his family, at the summer cottage, on the golf course or on the ski slopes, but he also admits that he often drops by the office.

– It’s hard to let go completely. And the people here are very nice,” he concludes.

Perhaps that’s where the core lies. A long career in the installation industry – always focused on people, relationships and making things work.
